Bachelor of Graphic Design, Class of 2018
Graphic Design is a lot more than just "making it pretty", as four years of design school have proven. Sure, it makes everything look a lot nicer, but good design at its core makes people's lives easier and can promote positive change. As a designer, I want to be able to create work that is both beautiful and impactful.
If you could go back in time, what would you tell freshman you?
Stay on top of projects and get some sleep! Honestly though, procrastination is your fatal flaw, and if you don't want to be stuck in studio at 2 am questioning your life decisions then try and stay ahead on projects. Also, it's never too early to try and learn the software!
Clean desktop or messy?
When I'm not working on a project, it's usually pretty tidy, just a few key folders and no stray files. During projects, I don't have a desktop. I have a war zone of source files, screenshots and 58 project files that are somehow all labeled "final". (note: Project_Final_REALFINAL_14.pdf was the real final).
With which software do you have a love/hate relationship?
I absolutely love Illustrator, but (as with every Adobe product) it does something really annoying or an update goes out and changes my whole setup. I've probably used it the most over the past few years, yet I still feel like there is always something new to learn when I use it.
